BIO
“Susan McRae was born in Paget, Bermuda. She is an emerging artist in Central Florida. Wanting to take painting lessons all her life, she recently started taking lessons from landscape artist Robert Meier at the Winter Springs Senior Center. In high school, Susan did pencil portraits and pastels of beautiful girls or old men whose faces showed much character. Despite the fact she has no formal training, she creates dramatic and beautiful scenes of forests and creatures along the lines of Alice in Wonderland. She has therefore chosen fantasy as her style, for now.
Susan suffers severe asthma and COPD, and is now retired. She previously worked full time as a Regional Liaison and raised two children. At that time, a combination of lack of sleep due to asthma and working full time left her with no energy to pursue her artwork. While Susan has been away from art for over fifty years, it has always been on her mind, and she feels fortunate to once again tap into her creative side and pursue a career in painting. She is currently working on a collection of fantasy pieces of unusual characters set in beautiful forest scenes.
Susan has shown at Jeanine Taylor Galleries in Sanford, Sanford Art Walk, Kaleidoscope, Florida Hospital and the Orlando Museum of Art. Blue Forest, won an Honorable Mention at the April 2017 Sanford Seminole Art Association yearly exhibit at Jeanine Taylor Galleries in Sanford and Casa Batllo won another Honorable Mention in 2018. She was chosen the Facebook Artist of the week by Ed Herbst, President of the Associates at Orlando Museum of Art. At present, Susan is a member of the Florida Artists Registry, the Sanford Seminole Art Association, Kaleidoscope and the Orlando Museum of Art.” – Patti Beckert
